103 - Personal Space

103 - Personal Space

3rd hard drive down and I still can't find the artwork documentation I've been searching for. On the upside, I found the original colour transparencies which can be scanned.

Meantime, these umbrellas crops popped up, which I like, but the heavy cropping compromised them. The photographs became very flat with low resolution.

The need to crop implies that I needed to work much, much closer. That could be done with the agreement of the umbrella bearer, either verbal or tacit (eye contact, small talk or a direct verbal invitation). But I think fully candid photography would be difficult without totally intruding on the person, because you'd have to get right up in their personal space, underneath their shelter. Way over their unspoken boundary.

Anyhow, I enjoy the pictures for the fashion element, the memory of being there and that cosy feeling of shelter in a storm.

I love umbrellas (to look at). Read about umbrellas in film and shops in my past blog post Nostalgic, magical umbrellas and romantic adventures

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
