106 - Culmination

106 - Culmination

I've been drawing and working for the last few days and I'm just thrilled, absolutely thrilled with what I made today. It feels like the culmination of three years of work.

I made line drawings of Nicole over the 'soft backgrounds', as planned some weeks ago.

And I'm doing the happy dance because it happened, it worked. It's like I mixed a spell, threw it in the magic circle and it's exploded into life.

I got into flow with the drawings. They are lightly drawn with the finest 0.05 tip pen. I focused lightly, and got that balance somewhere between trying and trying too hard. And they are just as I imagined. More interesting even.

There were a few rejects but I made 10 lovely drawings today which will go together in another tiled set. I will continue tomorrow and then decide how many to group together.

Meanwhile there's a lot of work piling up behind me on other things that I 'should' be doing. But I've decided (for various reasons I won't go into here) this is the priority right now.

Here are four of them. I will say that I was struggling with the colour balance in the scans of the drawings. The mauve is actually very warm, not cool. And the yellow is lemon not sunflower. Also, they are square but slightly too large for my scanner so they are cropped.

I just love the drama created by the colour, the softness and vulnerability of the poses and the visceral quality of the bruise like colour range.

Not very modest but I am so excited!!

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
