113 - Phantasmagorias

I have just added a new project page which shows my degree show work from 1995.

There were three pieces, the largest of which, included a carnival style column, and walls covered in mauve, brushed nylon. The animated (not literally) figures were made of hooked, slightly prickly material that could be pulled away and thrown back to attach itself, onto the 'loop' of the nylon background.

The mauve and black piece was a kind of soft 'mouse mat' type rubber with flexible magnetic material on the back (the black figures) and these could also be removed and replaced onto the painted steel background panels. Each panel was sprayed using aerosol cans which I bought from an amazing shop in Camden Town that carried hundreds of shades.

I have plenty more to say about this, but for today I have run out of time. More tomorrow.

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
