121 - Trinity Buoy

Today, I finally packed up the work in three boxes and delivered it, on foot, to the submissions desk at Trinity Buoy Wharf for this year's drawing competition. Wish me luck.
The morning was bright and hot and I enjoyed the walk along the river despite the heat. However, I think it's very tough on artists (especially the unknown artists who are most likely to submit work) to have the London drop-off point on an island in the middle of Docklands. Who can afford a taxi? I saw one woman struggling along in the 33 degree heat carrying a large framed drawing by hand. She still had quite a way to go along the river path.
It's hard to find a location in London that isn't served by several buses but they managed it. Symptomatic of the whole underfunded art world. Artists seem to have to foot the bill despite some of the shows not even being free.
It's been a very costly exercise. Not only the train fare (extortionate) but it took me a whole day to get up there and back to Salisbury.
Maybe the heat of the hottest day of the year, delayed trains with either no air conditioning or dripping-on-customers faulty air conditioning has made me extra crabby about the whole thing.
I was only motivated enough to apply, because I saw the show last year (when it came to Salisbury) and really enjoyed it and respected the quality of the work and the curation.
Here are some photos of the location approach and surroundings.
I had a rest on this 'public hammock' on my way back. And lost my favourite (only) scarf there bah!
