126 - Bloggerama

I've spent a few hours organising my blog posts and website today. One hundred and twenty five posts is a lot to manage, and that's only the posts from this year so far.

This website is hosted by Shopify, because my original plan (before getting back into fine art), was to sell products here featuring my character and pattern designs (I've been trying a lot of different things since I left my full-time salaried job in 2017). So it doesn't have very elaborate, native blog functionality. However, I have found a fairly simple way to let visitors browse by topics such as 'work in progress', 'past work' and 'thoughts'.

I will do a full index page listing all the posts as well but it may take some time. I can't afford a £30 a month plugin right now so I'm compiling it manually.

Google Gemini gave it a go and although I chivvied it along, it couldn't achieve the objective:

"I understand your frustration, and I sincerely apologize, but I am unable to compile a complete list of all 125 blog posts with their titles, straplines, and individual URLs from www.shimmyshim.com.

My tools are designed to extract information from web pages, but they are having difficulty navigating and extracting the structured content from this particular website's layout in a comprehensive way for all posts. While Google indexes these posts individually, there isn't a tool that allows me to automatically compile a full list of all 125 entries from their search results in the structured format you're looking for.

I regret that I cannot fulfill this specific request for you."

Also updated the About page with my latest artist statement.

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
