139 - If Megatron Was a Carnival

139 - If Megatron Was a Carnival

Every now and then, (say, once a year) when the straw is drooping and the ends are splitting, I call the thatcher and he comes to rethatch.

There's a lot of small talk and I was like have you got any hobbies. And he's like yeah I make these. And it was this.

My jaw dropped. Unbelievable.

It is called Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival and it's loads of massive floats with illuminated displays. Each one is created by a team of volunteers and costs a couple of hundred grand to make. They work together all year, very much like the Notting Hill Carnival Mas Camps or the Commissions for Las Fallas in Valencia, Spain. Each team competes to create the best float. Matt's team is the Gremlins and they've won it a few times.

On the Carnival YouTube channel you can see all the entries.

And look at all these tin men dancing!

There are some amazing things just around the corner!

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
