140 - Diversion Part 3 - Conflict

Getting commissioned, making, and selling, the modelling clay pieces caused conflict because I was absorbed in the balloon work, which had roots. When you think about certain themes again and again, and practice expression of those themes you can make a cohesive body of work. Lots of sketches and models are fertile ground for idea sprouts. The ideas are connected and it's possible to pull them together meaningfully. But after the flash, there was just an empty pan. I didn't have any ideas to follow up with. Nothing meaningful. And I didn't want to abandon my balloon garden.
It was an interesting diversion but I'd think twice before an abrupt change of direction now. If you work consistently there are less logistical and technical challenges. You can safely experiment with how to make something before the exhibition. There can always be unexpected problems if you're taking an innovative approach to materials, but there's more time to experiment.
More recently I have had some new modelling clay ideas. However, I'm hesitant. How can I connect those to my current work? How healthy is that modelling clay? Could I justify working with a non-biodegradable material? Could I use homemade play dough?
See how distracting it is.
