150 - Poo doll

150 - Poo doll

I sell doll clothes for a living. Niche but true. The role Doll Seller has as much anti-caché as the role Artist has caché.

Actually, I don't tend to sell many handmade, own-brand, mini, mod dresses (as pictured) as my customers only want the brand of their childhood. They are deeply skeptical of any new brand. Blind. Tunnel visioned. They want nostalgia.

The poodle doll is part of my own collection. I mostly sell, rather than holding onto things, but Peteena, released by Hasbro in 1966 is one of my favourites and I bought her for myself. She has a stiff little detachable poodle tail.

I would also rather like Mattel's Ms Heavenly Hippo and Ms Giddee Yup (a real clothes horse). They were a series of fashion dolls inspired by the Muppets. They are fantastically hideous.

This is a 'Busy' Barbie from the 1970s wearing a top hat and one of my mod dresses. She has special hands with working, hinged opposing thumbs enabling her to grip miniature objects such as a hostess trolley.

A more recent 'Fashionista' Barbie wearing a vintage, British designed coat.

And without the coat.

Check out this article which mentions three different dog faced dolls including Peteena. The article is on the website for a museum of play - it looks amazing.

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
