162 - Laurence Edwards

162 - Laurence Edwards

Drove over to Messums West today, in the village of Tisbury, to see the Laurence Edwards exhibition.

Messums is very serious and demanding of reverence which always make me feel a bit irreverent. However, this show reminded me of a war memorial. It is sobering. The figures express resilience and suffering, power and vulnerability. Very interesting.

They are made of bronze.

The figures are about twice life size.

The triangle and diamonds are cut from the face and shoulders and peeled back.

This is a crop of one of Edwards' drawings. The use of pattern surprised me. On the surface this work is macho but when you look closer there's a lot more to it. They are very sensitive.

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
