187 - Latest Project Update

Here is the latest update: the yellow and purple set.

To save mounting the whole set on the wall (and to save buying lights), I photographed each picture separately in daylight. For the second time, as the lighting was too strong last time and illuminated the texture on the paper too much.

I've spend a few hours carefully adjusting the colour balance in Photoshop to get as close a match as possible. The real thing of course shows a greater range of subtle colours, but these aren't bad.

I have decided to let the set be split up, as ultimately I don't think it quite lands. I made spontaneous decisions on the treatment of each individual piece, that I'm not sure work when the set comes together. My intention was to break the pattern slightly to prevent the whole piece becoming stilted. For example, I painted in hair in acrylic in some pictures, coloured it with felt tip pen in others and then some it is not filled in at all, it's fine lines only.

In any case, even if it does work, it doesn't work so well that I feel certain.

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
