250 - Tourist Trap

250 - Tourist Trap

Cambridge was horrible today. Narrow streets choked with people looking for trinkets. One of those faux-pop and bluebells galleries packed with buyers sipping sickly bubbly.

The crowds negged me out.

Kettles Yard was between shows.

We visited two new art galleries though. I had a chat with a young woman helping out at ArtSpace 5-7. It’s a lovely Art Deco style space in the centre of town, along a tiny pedestrian street, overlooking a green garden churchyard. Interesting show straddling the digital / analogue divide. The artist had asked AI for prompts, which is something I proposed recently for a residency. Thinking along the same lines.

The other was Corpus on King Street. A bold space run by a young man with an art history background. My parents were very enthusiastic. Whilst we were there, an artist called Helaine Blumenfeld arrived to take a look around. Funnily enough she has a sculpture outside Salisbury Cathedral. She is quite elderly now: of my parents generation. It was good to see her out and about and on the scene.

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
