288 - Empire of AI

288 - Empire of AI

I think this is a book I'll share around. Including donating it to the local library (which reminds me I need to renew my library books). It is a weighty tome though. The sheer weight of it in your hands could put you off reading it.

But it is easy to read. A story, rather than a study.

I've been 'randomly' watching various video interviews with AI experts and industry leaders. When I say randomly I mean without much context or chronological order. Of course what the YouTube algorithm shows me is not random but it feels like an organised jumble bag.

This book sets the scene, gives a history and introduces the key characters / AI experts, in a chronological order. I can see where they came from and how they relate to one another. It navigates the conflicts and contradictions between the public face and narrative, and what has been going on behind the scenes, as well as between the key and shadow figures.

I'm about 60 pages in.
