291 - Antique Messaging Service

I bought one or two batches of old postcards and greetings cards. I've had them for a while and I dip into them when I'm looking for something to send for a birthday or similar.

They are fascinating. I love the vintage greetings cards for the illustration style and the antique ones for the history trip.

There's a certain British dryness and habit of deprecation that stands out. (Well, I'm assuming the writers were British).

1915

"At sea..."

"Teneriffe was pretty enough, but the Spaniards anything but hygenic."

So rude!

The lion and unicorn emblem means the company was appointed as a special supplier to the King and Queen.

I love the formal instructions. I wonder if there was any penalty for using the margins 'FOR CORRESPONDENCE'.

Some of the punctuation is very perplexing. Why is Mr Brown, Mr "Brown"? And what are all the little loops about?

1922 though. Over a hundred years ago. Very poignant.

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
