339 - Medieval City

339 - Medieval City

I do enjoy living in Salisbury but sometimes I'm in the market square and I dream of a beautiful Spanish piazza.

Here we have a view of the market square, which includes a timber framed pizza restaurant, war memorial,  and Jungle Kingdom.

The war memorial is a very odd design. It reminds me of a crypt, with fencing to fend off body snatchers. It's low to the ground and not easy to read the plaques.

I would love to see the war memorial moved out of it's central position so that more can happen in the open space of the square. At the same time, I don't mean sideline it. It can be physically moved to the side but be redesigned to be more meaningful and attractive. More relatable. I'd like to see it redesigned to tell more of a story of the lost soldiers. To be a structure that young people notice and read to appreciate the real purpose of the memorial. As it stands, it seems to represent being stuck in the past. We have a future because of these lost people. Let's embrace it and remember them with a positive outlook.
