As mentioned before there is an aspect to my thinking that is nerdy.
This is a good example: it annoys me that people use the acronyms PPI and DPI interchangeably.
A way to explain PPI v DPI
A lot of people don't realise that a pixel can be any size. They think a pixel is a 'tiny mosaic piece'. That's not true. Much like a mosaic piece in real life, a pixel can be large or small. You could make a giant mosaic on the side of a building, with each tile one metre square, but when viewed from a distance the tiles would look small.
So you could print a pixel 1 inch wide (in other words, a resolution of 1 PPI), and it would be the printer's dots per inch (DPI) which would spray the paper with minuscule dots, creating a flat square of colour.
