Why does AI lay on punctuation with a trowel?

I wonder if it's because punctuation has only recently become so lean and mean? The AI learning data might have been scraped from thousands of transcripts of old manuscripts, Mrs Beaton's cookery book from 1861, Shakespeare's Folio?

It might have been scraped from Egyptian hieroglyphs or Mayan carvings? 

Why doesn't it pepper text with emojis? That would be more contemporary? Why does it like semi colons so much?

I actually hate punctuation, even though I once temped as a proof-reader for the civil service.

I love writing that slides into your mind smoothly with no grains or lumps.
