75 - David Hockney and David Choe - Irreverent

75 - David Hockney and David Choe - Irreverent

22:32 and I suddenly realised I haven't written today's post!

I was watching David Hockney chatting about Van Gogh and painting the landscape. What a bright eyed character he is (the artist with two ears I mean).

And yesterday I discovered David Choe. He uses ludicrous comedic talk and art to present  self-help content. He's a jester preacher.

Too tired to write much more but this reminded me (paradoxically) of Messums West art gallery. It is the Wiltshire countryside branch of a highfalutin Cork Street gallery, one stop away from me on the train. The venue space is mainly an enormous old tithe barn. You could fit a few buses inside end to end. Cathedral sized and rather pompish. Only the reverent shall enter here. It makes me feel like handling all the art work with smutty hands. And once I touched a beautifully carved pill by Tom Waugh. With delight - to see if it was loose and carved individually. A woman saw and turned me to stone with her look of contempt. I was grey and solid standing next to the limestone drugs.

David Hockney and David Choe are both minted but totally irreverent. They should both show together at Messums West. Choe full body skimming across a football pitch length of wet slime and Hockney chain smoking, insolent in stripes.

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
