93 - Kicking Off a New Piece

93 - Kicking Off a New Piece

Started working on a new piece today. As ever, I procrastinated first - had to get ALL my work out and check it...

Looking and thinking was a necessity though as I wanted to mentally create the work before actually doing it. So half thinking, half procrastinating.

It will be another tiled work using a pack of ready cut, 10 inch squares that I ordered online. 10 inches is an awkward size as it won't fit on my scanner. Also, imperial annoys me. Centimetres, inches schism. But it's easier to draw on the slightly larger size.

I will use this colour schematic (schematic as in shape as well as colour). The blue, yellow and big orange splash. I won't use the apricot.

The colour will go over these drawings of Nasim holding a sunflower. I'm not really interested in the sunflower, but I thought it would be a good hook to hang the splash on so to say.

Also spent some time trying to find the reference image used for this image. It must have been an antique pin-up, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I want to recreate this as a piece of wallpaper, with the same figure repeated. I like the way the body seems to emerge from a sea of the pattern. It's like that moment when the Beatles emerge from black circles in the 'Yellow Submarine' film.

Macmillan Cancer Support

This year I challenged myself to write one blog post per day, for 365 days. The project began on 3 March 2025.

I have linked this challenge to a charity fundraiser, because I want to look outside as well as inwards and contribute to society. It also holds me accountable and adds motivation to write everyday.

Macmillan is an organistation that offers powerful help to anyone (in the UK) who has been affected by cancer.
